UCC 'Manchester Mayhem,' July 23rd, Manchester
After the huge success of 'Blitz at the Ritz' in March, Ultimate Cage
Championships will return and Manchester's 'The Ritz' will be
the venue once again. On July 23rd, a whole host of intriguing bouts will take
place, including no less than six UCC MMA Title fights. UCC MMA Middlewieght
Title is also on the line as holder Andy Evans takes on Moss Side GnP’s Keiran
Mullin. Evans won the title on a razor decision with HYDE MMA’s Lee Johnson.
Mullin will be looking to push all the way and is a strong fighter with an iron
chin. This could go either way, with a belt on the line it’s who wants it most
Keiran Mullen from Moss Side Ground & Pound was upset in an intense fight
with Samurai Jiu Jitsu standout Andy Evans. Having a massive fan base, Evans
threw solid strikes and stayed busy in the clinch and scored a 2nd round TKO
victory over the durable Mullen. Mullen who had been deducted points in the 2
rounds for illegal strikes to the back of the head, came out in the second with
intensity as he looked to finish Evans quickly but was beaten convincingly by
Andy Evans to retain the Middleweight title.
March
This Friday, UCC MMA will put on their debut
show in Manchester, England. This has been named
the ‘Blitz at the Ritz,’ and all 1,200 tickets were sold four weeks ago, showing
this is no small event. Promoter Danny Hornsby is determined to make this the
‘Cage Rage/Ultimate Challenge of the North,
Another Hyde MMA star going for a title was Lee Johnson, who took on Andy Evans
for the Middleweight strap. This was a close affair at
all times, although one
event at the end turned the tables in the favour of the victorious Evans.
In the first, Johnson threw a couple of good combinations before initiating a
clinch. From there though, the tide turned as Evans got the takedown, but the
‘chopping and changing’ nature of this fight was shown when Johnson managed to
work his way into full mount from here. The rest of the round had more
favourable moments to Johnson, although it was a close run battle.
Round two was dominated by Samurai Jiu Jitsu’s Evans, who maintained top
position and unleashed masses of ground and pound, particularly near the end of
the round. Johnson showed heart just to get through this.
The final session was razor close. When standing, Johnson was applying pressure
and throwing more, while Evans’ workrate was minimal, but he was connecting
with harder shots. Up to about fifteen seconds shy of the closing bell, Johnson
was edging the round, only for him to fail with a takedown attempt. This
allowed Evans to take top position, and finish the session in the dominant
postion, thus winning him the contest

Derbyshire Championships 26th September
After meeting up at the Dojo at 9.00 am we travelled to Chapel which was about half an hours drive away. Being some of the first to arrive the boys were keen to get going. Quick Team Talk which was "have fun and win". Then a warm up. The fights started at 11.00 am. First up was Stuart - his nerves kicked in but he was so up for it. He was giving away five stone in weight but using technique and superior fitness he won. Our first fight and our first win of the day.
Next to fight was Andy, fighting someone from Martial Sport. The fight was over quite quickly with Andy applying a nice Key Lock. Second fight of the day second win. So far, so good. Some of the lads decided they would enter the light continues Kickboxing. Colin, Mark and Vincent. First up was Colin and he put up a good show working his punches and kicks well. A close fight but the decision went against him. Next fight was two from the same club Dave and Andy. Dave put up a good show but as everyone knows on team Samurai it will take a good grappler to beat Andy. Winning with a CHOKE. Collin's Second fight of the day kickboxing and again very close - in fact I thought he won but again it went against him, very unlucky. Next up Vincent kickboxing, straight from the start he kept his man under pressure mixing punches and kicks to win his fight. Next was Mark looking good using jabs and upper cuts well, good body kicks. An easy win for him.
The final saw Mark and Vincent fighting again both from the same club so they knew what to expect, but they both wanted that gold medal and Mark had just slightly better boxing skill took the gold and Vincent silver. Next up the Cannon Gavin. He put up a good fight. One of the best of the day. It all came together for him winning by submission with a guillotine. Next was Colin who I think had the hardest fights of the day, the fighters were both well matched, the fight going to extra time, 6 minuets of ground fighting, Colin going the distance and winning by decision. The Cannon up again against one of our own Neal. A close fight which could have gone ether way but Neal winning with a choke. After a short five minute rest Colin was up again for what turned out to be another epic fight, going for 7 minutes, after the first two rounds the referee talked to the fighters and said most dominant fighter in the next minute would win. Colin to top mount quickly and stayed there to win his fight. In the final again two from the same club Neal and Colin both doing very well but even after his epic ground fights Colin won by referee decision and gold medal, Neal Silver. Next fightiers were our light weights Chad, Mark and Vincent. Chad has not been with us long but put up a good show being beat by Vincent. Well done Chad who only came to spectate and ended up fighting Vincent winning by Choke. Next Mark and Chad fought. The fight was soon over Mark winning by submission
In the final Mark and Vincent. Close fight again but Vincent winning by submission
Well Done to all Team Samurai Submission
